Oblivion is Full of Memory

Uruguayan poet and writer Mario Benedetti (1920-2009)

Oblivion is not a victory

over evil or over nothing at all.

And if it is the veiled way

of mocking at History,

memory would be wide open

looking for any place

to return what has been lost.

Those who pretend oblivion can’t forget

But those who can forget.
